‘Cause through Your strength
All my fears will fade away
As you lead me in Your ways
I will trust in You
It’s hard to accept that the violence of my secondary school and higher ed text books is jumping off the pages in 2016. Racism, bigotry, miscommunication, denial of love, if we’re honest, have never ceased to be humanity’s story. The difference now is that the storm many were trying to warn others about is finally palpable to a broader community.
We’ve become frantic. Trying to navigate the chaos asking questions like: What do we do? And where do we go from here?
I was too sick to sleep. I sat awake desperate for a plot twist until I remembered one crucial element to the story.
For me, the intake of what I saw happening was a blow to the heart. Many of my friends and even influencers in America had gone to sleep unable to bear any more heartache. I didn’t sleep. I was too sick to sleep. I sat awake desperate for a plot twist until I remembered one crucial element to the story.
In those moments of heartache and confusion, I had to take a moment (several moments, really) to remind myself who the Author of my story is. The ultimate Comfort and Prince of Peace.
Lay Your peace
Like a blanket over me
And as I lay down to sleep
I will rest in You
My hope was deferred and my heart got sick (Proverbs 13:12), but the more I refocused on Jesus and His promises the aching began to lift and I was, finally, able to rest.
